London 25 May 2022: ZappedSkinan online dermatology service, raised £ 220,000 from Jenson’s financing partner. The funding will be used by the healthtech startup to leverage the impressive success it has had in providing remote acne counseling and treatment by augmenting its technology and capabilities, in order to expand its service to other skin conditions.
ZappedSkin is a Care and Quality Commission registered teledermatology platform, providing acne sufferers with video and text consultations with UK trained dermat consultants from the comfort and privacy of their homes. Drugs and tests are delivered to their door, with treatment options including topical medications, oral antibiotics, and isotretinoin. All of its services are provided remotely so that patients can speak to a consultant.
ZappedSkin not only saves patients the difficulty and sometimes the discomfort of attending an in-person consultation but, without the need for a referral from a family doctor, it also greatly reduces the waiting time to see a consultant from those who can. being on the NHS waiting lists for months, for days – making treatment much more accessible.
Dr Ali Jomaa, co-founder of ZappedSkin, explained: “Without the ability to see a dermatologist quickly and easily, patients often go months or even years without receiving adequate treatment for acne, which can have a huge impact. on emotional and mental health as well as the risk of causing permanent scarring. Typically, their therapeutic journey begins with researching online, with resources that vary in terms of reliability, before trying over-the-counter skin care products, which in many cases are not enough.
“Our mission at ZappedSkin is to help patients get the correct treatment they need much faster by making experts available to them easily. We are with our clients throughout their journey to acne recovery, as a place they can turn to for support, advice, credible information and acne treatment. “
Launched in 2020 with nine dermatologists, ZappedSkin’s remote consultation model was demonstrated during the pandemic. The company has now undertaken nearly 2,000 consultations and has doubled revenue in the first six months of launch. The company quickly developed a customer base in part thanks to its skin-positivity message that resonates with a committed skin care community on social media.
This investment will be used to fuel the startup’s success through hiring and marketing, as the company expands its acne services to cover the full spectrum of treatments from topical and personalized skin care products, to oral prescription drugs and, finally, post-Roaccutane skin maintenance. packages via a subscription model.
It will also fund further technological development of the app, which will support the platform’s capabilities as the company expands its service to other conditions, to make skincare treatment accessible, innovative and personal.
Jeffrey Faustin, Chief Investment Officer of Jenson Funding Partners, said: “ZappedSkin demonstrated a fantastic adaptation to the product market by quickly garnering a large customer base, who were looking for a better way to receive skin care treatment. We are proud to support this team, which is already making a big difference in people’s lives. The platform has huge potential to expand to other conditions and help even more people with access to the best experts and treatments available. “
