WWDC: Is Apple Preparing for a Huge iPad Upgrade?

The lack of true multi-tasking has long been a criticism of the iPad, but this may (or may not) be about to change, and we may (or may not) learn more about this at Congress Apple Global Developers (WWDC). The grand event begins June 6th.

Let’s mingle, let’s mix it up

Evidence for change is limited – there is additional WebKit code for multitasking mode that implies easily customizable windows. What this might mean in practice is that you will be able to open multiple windows on an iPad and switch them as you wish, closer to the Mac experience.

Developer Steve Troughton-Smith speculates the code could potentially support new iPad OS-powered devices as well as provide a user experience similar to a Mac desktop.

Apple continues to bring the experiences of iPad and Mac users closer together, while at the same time respecting the differences between the two. That vision extends to complementary use, as is clear from Universal Control announced in 2021. The latter allows you to use a Mac and an iPad as well as a single mouse and keyboard to control both and the enhanced partnership on the platforms – you can drag-and-drop items between devices, for example . The interest of the two devices used together increases more than the partsalthough both devices retain their uniqueness.

Now with bigger engines

Le Apple silicon, both devices now have much larger engines. With this in mind, it’s pretty interesting despite Apple’s using Mac-class Apple Silicon M1 chips across most of the iPad rangelittle is known about how he intends to pursue this processing power in iPad OS 16. Apple will not have powered the range for no good reason, but speculation has been prominently missing in recent weeks.

What we have heard are improved announcements and vague sounds about “new ways to interact with apps,” and “Apple’s new apps”. Little do we also think we know of hints of ads, health apps, and a platform for the company’s AR glasses development that is expected in the future.
