World Cup winner Bayliss takes reins at Sydney Thunder

Former England coach Trevor Bayliss Was appointed to Sydney Thunder On Thursday, Australians said they were excited to go home.

The 58-year-old, who masterminded England to win the World Cup in one day in 2019, will coach the team in the next three seasons of the 2020 Big Bash League.

“It’s great to be at home in Cricket, New South Wales,” said Bayliss, who led the Kolkata Knight Riders to two Indian Premier League titles.

“Thunder has been doing well in the last few years. I hope I can take a step or two further this summer. My main goal is to win as many games as possible and fight in the finals.”

Thunder finished third last season.

Bayliss, the current head coach of Sunrisers Hyderabad, will succeed Shane Bond, a New Zealander who resigned in April for family reasons.

Renegade in Melbourne also announced a new coach for David Saker, who was the first bowling coach in Australia, England and Sri Lanka.

He will take over the last outfit of the last two BBL seasons under Michael Klinger, who quit his job at Cricket NSW.
