Chubby Checker’s The Twist was knocked off its perch at the top of Billboard’s greatest song chart ever by The Weeknd’s viral hit Blinding Lights.
Checker’s 1960 hits have been at the forefront since their inception in 2008, after spending a few weeks at number one in the 1960s.
Canadian artist Weekend (Real name Abel Tesfaye) released Blinding Lights in 2019, the track spread rapidly on TikTok and climbed the streaming charts.
The singer also closed on his truck Super Bowl Halftime Show Earlier this year, an army of dancers joined him on the Tampa pitch.
Blinding Lights spent four weeks at number one on the Weekly Billboard Hot 100 (equivalent to the UK’s Top 40), 43 weeks in the Top 5 and 57 and 90 weeks in the Top 10 across the charts.
He told Billboard:
“I try not to stick to it. I just count my blessings and I’m just grateful.”
Meanwhile, The Beatles continue to reign at the top of the greatest artist table of all time, followed by Madonna, Elton John and Elvis Presley.
Fab Four boasts 34 top 10 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, 20 of which are top-ranked in history.

Billboard’s methodology is based on the company’s weekly Hot 100 chart (started in 1958) and is inversely weighted based on overall history performance.
For example, the 1st track will be given the highest score, the 100th track will be given the lowest score, and will increase over time.
The full time chart is updated every 5 years.
