Birmingham-based smart-EV launch and energy storage WAU (We Are Universal) raised £ 650,000 in a preliminary funding round with Angel investment networkthe largest online investment platform in the world.
WAU, launched in 2018, is a rapidly growing intelligent electric vehicle platform that transforms urban mobility. The product offering includes: WAU bicycles, a long-range smart electric bike with a powerful on-board computer, the 2-wheel version of the smart electric car; and soon revealing the WAU Powerwall, allowing the bicycle’s power cells to be linked together to serve as an energy storage system for solar homes and power plants, among other uses. In the end WAU visionits data collection capability for a future of autonomous electric vehicles, available to all current and future WAU riders around the world.
The investment will allow the company to advance its neighbor mapping. WAU is the only 2-wheel electric vehicle platform that has enough physical space and power on board to calculate, process and send the road data needed to help all electric vehicles achieve level 5 on autopilot. It has been rated as one of the best e-bike brands in the world by the Financial Times And The week.
The funds raised will also mean the company can double the production volume at its Essex facility to keep up with growing customer demand. Finally, the company is relocating its central headquarters from Nottingham to Birmingham to focus on successfully recruiting senior talent to rapidly accelerate WAU’s front-end growth as a rapidly expanding DTC brand.
According to co-founder Linas Pozerskis: “We are delighted that AIN investors have supported our vision of transforming the mobility sector with a powerful and portable alternative to full size Smart EVs such as Polestar, Tesla and Lucid. There is simply no 2-wheel electric vehicle platform in the world that can take all the great benefits of 4-wheel electric vehicles and make them portable, from eliminating range anxiety to worldwide monitoring to supercharging. “
He continued: “We are proud that our bikes are designed, tested, programmed and manufactured in Great Britain. With all the innovation going on, the WAUs will become a heritage of appreciation. After focusing heavily on R&D early on, this investment will help us take manufacturing to the next level and advance our revolutionary WAU Auto-Pilot mapping. ”
According to Sam Louis, Director of Angel Investment Network: “WAU is one of the most interesting teams we have worked with. Their vision of advancing the electric vehicle industry combined with the drive and passion they have to run it has truly set them apart. It has been a key component in their ability to bring experienced angel investors from our network on board. Beyond that, the work they’ve done to strengthen and control their supply chain is a great example of their dedication to doing things the right way rather than the easy way. We are thrilled to have helped support their round of over-enrollment in this exciting next phase. ”
