Schumacher shunted his car towards the barrier by turns 21 and 22. At the same location, Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc crashed while practicing.

As the safety car came out, the yellow flag was immediately waved.

But after a few minutes it became a red flag. This means that all cars have to return to the pits and wait for the race to resume.

This was bad news for Hamilton, as Hamilton and his teammate Valtteri Bottas made a pit stop, but Verstappen did not.

As a result, Red Bull drivers were able to change tires while the race was waiting to resume. So he didn’t have to go in and give up on the lead.

After noticing the news, frustrated Hamilton couldn’t believe Steward’s decision to put a red flag on the race.

He said: “Why is there a red flag? The tire walls look beautiful.

The 7th Champion then added quite suggestively: “I know the reason for the red flag.”

The race resumed from the standing start on the grid, so more dramas were to come.

Hamilton passed the leader Verstappen before the Dutch crossed the curb to regain the lead.

Esteban Ocon also passed Hamilton, but Verstappen’s move was seen by Steward, who was subsequently demoted to third place.

But it wasn’t before Nikita Mazepin and Sergio Perez crashed in the middle of the pack and still had another red flag.

All the turmoil meant that Ocon would resume the race in pole position, with Hamilton in second and Verstappen in third.

Hamilton is eight points below Verstappen in that only the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix will come after this weekend.
