Multiple traffic accidents reported due to winter weather
A number of road accidents have been reported across the UK today as a result of the winter weather.
Cumbria Police said on Saturday afternoon that they had received a number of reports of a multi-vehicle collision on Rhynose Pass in the Lake District.
Wiltshire Police said the weather was “causing disruption” across the county, while Avon and Somerset Police warned of significant road disruption in parts of Somerset.
Highways said the A303 in Wiltshire was also closed in both directions between the A338 Chorlton and the A345 Amesbury due to heavy snow.

Power outages were reported across large parts of the UK.
Thousands of Brits remain without power after a cold snap hit the country.
National Grid said work was underway to restore power to areas across the Midlands, South West and South Wales, including Birmingham, Cardiff and Bristol.
Additionally, authorities in some parts of the UK have warned that up to 30 centimeters of snow is expected in some areas, potentially cutting off rural areas.
Flights suspended in Bristol as Big Freeze unrest begins
Flights have been suspended at Bristol Airport as a snowstorm hits the UK, causing power outages and travel disruption.
The major travel hub confirmed that all flight operations have been suspended until late tonight due to “severe weather”.
A spokesperson said the suspension primarily affects incoming flights, so customers are encouraged to contact their airline for more information. Staff are trying to clear the runway.
