Two title fights overcome a stacked card at UFC 273 tonight, but the majority of fans are looking forward to “the people’s main event”: a welterweight clash between Khamzat Chimaev and Gilbert Burns.

Undefeated at 10-0 and having won all his fights by finish, Chimaev is the most publicized prospect in the cfu. The Russian-born Swede is set for his toughest test yet, however, when he takes on former title challenger Burns (20-4) here. A black belt in jiu-jitsu with sharp strikes and heavy hands, Burns, 35, is an all-around fighter and marks a huge step up in competition for Chimaev, 28, whose latest outing was his first against a top-15 opponent at the UFC. In any case, Chimaev won this fight against Li Jingliang by submission in the first round, choke cold chinese after slamming him to the mat while talking to UFC President Dana White through the cage.

After Chimaev’s contest with Burns in Jacksonville, Florida, the co-main event will see petr yan trying to regain the men’s bantamweight belt from Aljamain Sterlingto whom the Russian lost the title by disqualification last year. Yan (16-2) landed an illegal knee to drop the belt to the Jamaican-American, who hasn’t fought since due to neck surgery. Yan, meanwhile, won the interim title in edging out Cory Sandhagen in a Fight of the Year in October.

In the main event, Alexander Volkanovski (23-1) defends his featherweight belt against the “korean zombieChan Sung Jung (17-6), who received that title shot after Max Holloway pulled out of a trilogy fight against Australian Volkanovski. Mickey Gall vs. Mike Malott is up now, a welterweight bout.

Gall, who featured famed WWE star CM Punk in every man’s UFC debut, gets tagged early with punches.

Gall, no longer a grappler, remains calm, however. His head is brought back by a jab, but he retaliates with an overhand right and a jab of his own.

The left hook lands for Malott, who then follows up with a left to the body! Gall times a takedown well, but Malott quickly stands against the cage before creating space.

Next, here’s a clip from our preview of Alexander Volkanovski vs. Chan Sung Jung…

“Since returning from a four-year absence in 2017, the ‘Korean Zombie’ has gone 4-2 in the UFC, beating Dan Ige last time out to rebound from a loss to Brian Ortega. Ige is a talented fighter but not (yet) considered an elite featherweight, while Ortega has challenged twice for the belt, so veteran Sung Jung’s credentials for a title fight have been called into question.

“In fact, the 35-year-old challenged then-champion Jose Aldo in 2013 and was stopped by the Brazilian in Sung Jung’s last fight before leaving MMA to undertake his mandatory military service in South Korea. .”

Next, here’s a snippet of our preview of Aljamain Sterling vs. Petr Yan…

“Most fans think Yan will claim victory over Sterling who he was closing in on when they first met. Many think the interim champion will do it easily.

“But it’s worth watching Sterling’s early successes from their first clash; even if Yan was just letting the Jamaican-American burn off his energy, Sterling was picking up points, and the defending champion can learn from his mistakes in this contest to make this fight more competitive than many fans think.

Ahead of UFC 273, we looked at storylines for the three biggest fights tonight. First, here’s a clip from our preview of Khamzat Chimaev vs. Gilbert Burns…

“This fight has captured the imagination of more fans than even the two title fights, with fans of the sport desperate to find out if Chimaev is as genuine a contender as some believe. The Swedish-born Russian is 4-0 in the UFC and 10-0 overall; all of his wins came on the finish and he remarkably absorbed only one major strike in the promotion. He has suffocating wrestling skills and easily generated knockout power. […]

“If Chimaev goes through Burns, we’re seeing one of the most amazing rises in UFC history – perhaps the most amazing, and that’s not hyperbole. Even if he narrowly beats Burns , he will have established himself as worthy of a title shot.

Tonight’s preliminary card will culminate with Ian Garry’s second UFC fight.

The undefeated Irish welterweight, who won his UFC debut via first-round knockout in November, takes on Darian Weeks here. Prior to this clash, 24-year-old Garry took part in a roundtable in which The Independent was involved. Here is what he had to say:

“If fucking Khamzat Chimaev walked past that door now and said something to me, me and him would go. I’m not afraid of anyone. I’ll hit him if he wants to go, no problem. I think no one is unbeatable.

“What I do so well is find ways to win. I find that win and make it look easy and then I go in and rock that mic better than anyone. It just makes me a little better, the creme de la creme. I believe I will be the best in the world. I’m on a rocket to the moon.
