Commenters on Twitter spotted how Liz Truss recreated Margaret Thatcher’s outfit to appear in the first Tory leadership debate.
Hundreds of people took to the social media platform to point out the striking resemblance.
One tweet, which has received over 4,500 likes, reads: “Liz Truss has recreated Margaret Thatcher’s appearance from the 1979 election broadcast down to the last detail.”
Another joked. “Liz Truss’s Margaret Thatcher Tribute Act Available to Hire”.
Ms Truss appeared alongside Tory leadership candidates Tom Tugendhat, Rishi Sunak, Cammy Badenoch and Penny Mordon for the Channel 4 debate hosted by Krishnan Guru-Murthy.
Asked when she stood up for honesty and integrity, Ms Truss said: “I stood by Boris Johnson, of course I raised issues with him privately, but I supported him in the leadership election.
“I was part of his cabinet and owed him my loyalty.”
He appeared to refer to Mr. Sunak’s performance as chancellor, saying: “We are facing serious challenges as a country, the worst economic crisis in a generation, a terrible war waged by Russia in Ukraine, after decades of very slow growth.
“Now is not the time for the continuation of our current economic policy.
“We must be bold, we must do things differently, we must cut taxes, we must unleash growth and we must unleash the potential of all people in our great country.”
