Although many of these symptoms are also seen in people infected with chickenpox, swollen lymph nodes are a distinctive feature of monkeypox that are not present in chickenpox.

The incubation period for monkeypox can be seven to 14 days, and chickenpox symptoms can take up to 16 days to appear, according to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.CDC).

After monkeypox infection, a rash, initially similar to chicken pox, usually appears one to three days after the fever.

The rash goes through several different stages, first developing into papules and fluid-filled pustules before scarring and falling off.

However, the chicken pox rash develops differently.

Spots in the smallpox rash do not develop informally, they appear at different times. However, monkey lesions appear and develop simultaneously.

Symptoms of monkeypox usually last two to four weeks. Some strains can cause severe disease, with recent fatality rates ranging from 3 to 6 percent. World Health Organization (ᲯῦᲜḠᲝ).

Chickenpox symptoms can last up to two weeks, but usually disappear within seven days.

The UK government has published new guidance advising people with the virus and those who have had direct contact with someone infected with monkeypox to self-isolate for three weeks.

People in this group are also told not to travel and are advised to avoid contact with immunocompromised people, pregnant women and children under 12.
