Police say one girl kidnapped by her estranged father after discovering her sister’s body 3,000 feet off the coast of Tenerife may never be found.
Police believe that the missing 6-year-old Olivia Jimeno was thrown into a sports bag and weighed with an anchor. Meanwhile, a second empty sports bag was found nearby.
A police spokesman said:
“The body was found by a robot on the search vessel Angeles Alvarino at noon today, about 1,000 meters below the surface of the water, about three miles from the coast of Tenerife.
“It was inside a sports bag attached to the anchor. Next to it was another empty sports bag.
“The corpse was taken to dry land for autopsy. A ship called Angeles Alvarino continues to search.”
Olivia’s one-year-old sister, Anna, fears she may never be found after another holdall found nearby (which is suspected of containing her body) has been emptied.
The girl’s mother, Beatrice Zimmerman, was informed about the discovery.
This all happens hours after the Spanish rescue ship finds Anna’s oxygen cylinders, duvet covers and stroller seats floating in the sea.
Authorities now suspect that Thomas Antonio Guimeno, 37, was helped by at least one other person in carrying out what he considered to be a planned kidnapping.
Last night, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez responded to tragic news and tweeted. “I can’t imagine the pain of a little Anna and Olivia’s mother who disappeared on Tenerife.
“I send hugs and my love, and the love of my entire family showing solidarity between Beatrice and her loved ones today.”
Jose Manuel Bermudes, Mayor of Santa Cruz, the capital of Tenerife, has announced that Anna and Olivia will remain silent tomorrow at noon.
He states: “There is no word to describe the terrible devastation I feel.
“I would like to respect the pain of my mother and pay close attention to the horrific news that arrives at us to convey all the solidarity of the citizens of Santa Cruz to my family.”
President Angel Victor Toures of the Canary Islands tweeted:
“Our condolences, encouragement, and power to Mom Beatrice, her family, and friends. The Canary Islands have been devastated.”
Cristiano Ronaldo’s partner Georgina Rodríguez shared a video of Olivia and Anna released by her mother as part of a large social media campaign and asked the general public to help find them.
In a moving post to 24 million Instagram followers shortly after the mystery disappeared, Georgina said:
“These are two sisters being searched in Spain and abroad. They are called Olivia and Anna and are 6 and 1 years old.
“Their moms are asking for the maximum promotion of this video in order to find them and take them home as soon as possible.
“I sincerely hope that the girls will be safe and energetic and will soon be able to hug their mom again.”
Thomas disappeared with the girls on April 27, after not returning to his home in Santa Cruz, the capital of Tenerife.
According to local reports, he picked up the girl at 5 pm and gathered Anna in front of Olivia, who was attending an after-school German class.
Then he took them to his house in Igueste de Candelaria, but no one answered the door when his mother arrived late that night to pick them up again.
The pair exchanged phone numbers all night, including what Beatrice said he would never see the children again.
Around 7:30 pm, he was seen loading suitcases and bags onto a boat at a local marina without children.
It is understood that Thomas traveled three times from a parked white Audi A3 to a moored ship and was suspended by a civil guard patrol for violating Covid’s curfew.
The boat was found to be empty for the next ship moored off the coast of Puertito de Guimar.
Local governments said from the beginning that all theories had been explored, including the possibility that the girls died, but their loved ones said they were still alive and reunion with their mother could still occur. He said he was sticking to the hope of having sex.
Beatrice said after the dive bottle was found on Monday, she thought it was part of an attempt to disguise his flight with a girl by her estranged partner.
South America was emphasized as a place where Guimeno could take them shortly after they disappeared with them.
Police were using a boat rented by the Spanish Institute of Oceanography to look for clues where the Guimeno movement signal was last detected.
Guimeno never accepted the relationship between Beatrice and his new Belgian partner after the split.
