Three Texas deputy police officers were shot dead in an “ambush” on Saturday morning, killing at least one.

NS Texas Police officers were shot dead during an “ambush” outside a nightclub in Houston early Saturday morning, injuring two other lawmakers, police officials said.

“We believe they were ambushed and shot from behind,” said James Jones, executive assistant chief of the Houston Police Department.

“This is a terrible time,” Jones added.

As of Saturday afternoon, none of the three police officers were identified.

Harris County lawmakers were doing “additional police-related work” as guards at the 45 Norte Bar and Lounge in northern Houston, officials said.

At around 2:25 am on Saturday, officials say police officers were ambushed outside a nightclub along the North Freeway.

According to Jones, the three were out to check for turmoil when they were shot dead along the North Freeway in an attempt to detain the suspect at around 2:25 am...

One agent was killed on the scene, the second was shot in the back, and emergency surgery was required early Saturday morning. The third was shot in the leg and was waiting for surgery.

“It may have been a robbery that they were intervening,” Jones said, adding that it was not clear if they were able to return the fire.

The suspect is believed to be a young Hispanic man, officials said.

At least one “interested person” was detained by police on the scene, but Jones did not immediately state whether it was a suspect or a witness.

“There are a lot of questions at this point,” Jones said.

“This is probably one of the most difficult things in my career,” police officer Mark Harman said at a press conference on Saturday.

“I have a father there, a wife there, and they have a deceased son and husband.”
