The UK government has launched a new one digital strategy and datasetting out plans to transform government digital services, upskill civil servants and streamline online processes by 2025.

The 21-point roadmap, entitled ‘Transforming for a Digital Future: A Roadmap 2022 to 2025 for digital and data’, is overseen by the Central Digital and Data Office, the department in charge of the digital, data and technology function of the government.

The key commitment of the strategy is to upgrade at least 50 of the most used government services by 2025 to ensure they are efficient, easy to use and accessible on mobile devices.

In comments published with the strategy, Paul Willmott, executive chairman of the Office of Digital and Data, said the roadmap was an ambitious statement of intent that ushered in a new era of collaboration on digital transformation and fostered a digital and data transformation. agenda.

“Written collaboratively, it sets out a shared vision underpinned by truly tangible commitments and actions, to be delivered by all government departments,” Willmott said.

How the UK digital strategy will work

The strategy states that this roadmap is ‘designed to be different’, due to the creation of the Central Digital and Data Office and the collaboration between the leadership of the Permanent Secretary.

In addition, in order to ‘achieve [its] vision for 2025 ‘, the government divides the 21 points of the overarching strategy into six cross – government missions:

Each mission is led by a permanent sponsor at secretary level and will be governed by a dedicated steering committee of government technology leaders including CDIOs, CTOs and CDOs. A ‘forum of permanent secretaries’ consisting of a newly established Data and Digital Board will oversee the delivery of the plan and review its progress every six months.
