The number of police officers shot during work doubled in a year, impact statistics show

According to statistics, the number of police shot on duty has doubled in a year.

From April 2020 to March 2021, 23 police officers were injured in guns, up from 12 in the last 12 months.

Sergeant Matt Ratana, 54, was shot dead in a custodian suite in Croydon, southern London last September.

Six officers were shot dead while on duty in 2017-18, down from nine in 2016-2017.
