The North East Institute of Technology (NEIoT) has officially opened at New College Durham.
NEIoT was in the first wave of Institutes of Technology (IoT) announced by then Prime Minister Theresa Mayin 2019, an initiative labeled “the biggest revival of technical education in a generation”.
Collaborations between higher education institutions, universities and businesses offer higher-level, employer-led technical courses with a strong focus on STEM subjects.
More than 60 invited guests were on hand at New College Durham to hear a series of speeches and attend the ribbon cutting of Durham City Mayor Arnie Simpson.
They then had the opportunity to take part in the interactive partner market, explore virtual reality technology, watch robotic equipment demonstrations, and tour the building.

“I am a great ambassador to support the push for technical skills in our region, with the aim of also supporting more women in engineering,” she said.
“It is imperative that we all work together to support the growing demand for skilled employees across the industry as investments in the Northeast continue and embrace greener and more sustainable technologies.
