Steve Irwin’s children shared photos and a tribute to the late wildlife leader and conservationist on his 60th birthday.

Bindy Irwin and Robert Irwin praised “the greatest father and warrior of the wild” on social media, saying his legacy will live on.

Gently known as the Crocodile Hunter, Irwin was known for his confrontation with dangerous animals around the world.

He died in 2006 at the age of 44 after his chest was pierced by a spike on a slope on the Great Barrier Reef in Australia.

Irwin’s daughter and son, who were only eight and two when he died, both followed in his footsteps, becoming conservationists and television personalities.

Next to a photo of herself looking at a large earthworm with her father, Bindi wrote: “Happy birthday to the greatest father and warrior of the wild.

“Today I’m going to watch Crocodile Hunter with Grace Warrier and share stories about her amazing grandfather Crocodile. I love you with all my heart. Your legacy lives on.

The 23-year-old gave birth to daughter Grace Warrier last year, which she shares with former American professional wakeboarder Chandler Powell.

Posting a photo of himself as a child on the front of a motorcycle with his father, Robert, 18, wrote: “Happy birthday, Dad. I love you and I miss you more and more every day.

“My earliest memories are my best, thanks to you. Hold on tight to the handlebars of the bike when you take Bindi and I on your morning tour of the zoo – before you go get some ice cream for breakfast.

“Every minute spent with you was a blessing. I’m going to ride this tour of your old motorcycle this afternoon.

Grace’s grandmother Terry Irwin now runs the Australian Zoo, which celebrates Steve Irwin Day every year on November 15.
