Stephen Sondheim dies at age 91

Broadway songwriter Stephen Sondheim, known for his Westside stories and gypsy hits, died Friday at the age of 91.

He was known for his work in various plays such as Company, Sweeney Todd and Merrily We Roll Along.

according to New York Times He died at his home in Roxbury, Connecticut.

His death was confirmed by his friend F. Richards Papas, a lawyer who suddenly called it.

In 2015 he was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Barack Obama.

He got a Broadway home on West 43rd Street, renamed in his honor in 2010.
