Birmingham [UK]July 30 (ANI): The Indian squash team’s campaign continued to progress at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham as Saurav Ghosal claimed victory in his 32nd round match against Sri Lanka’s Shamil Wakel.
Ghosal advanced to the Round of 16 after winning 3-0. He did not allow his Sri Lankan opponent to catch his breath, winning 11-4, 11-4, 11-6 in three games.

On the other hand, in the women’s singles category, Joshna Chinnappa also won her 32nd round match against Megan Best of Barbados. He advanced to the round of 16 with a 3-0 win, 11-8, 11-9, 11-9.

The second day of the Indian squash team in this tournament was spent with two defeats. In the men’s singles category, Ramit Tandon made a comeback, handing the victory to Christopher Binny of Jamaica.

On the other hand, in the women’s singles category, Sunaina Kuruvilla lost to Malaysia’s Aifah Azman in her round of 32 match. Kuruvila has recorded the same number of defeats in three consecutive games with scores of 7-11, 7-11, 7-11.

Earlier on Friday, the Indian squash team began their Commonwealth Games 2022 campaign with two solid wins, with 14-year-old Anahat Singh and debutant Abhay Singh advancing to the round of 32.
Anahat, the youngest member of India’s CWG contingent, defeated Jada Ross of St Vincent and the Grenadines in the round of 64 in her women’s singles match. He won the match 11-5, 11-2, 11-0. The youngster was tough to play against and secured victory in three straight games to qualify for the round of 32.
Representing India in his first ever CWG, Abhay defeated Joe Chapman of the British Virgin Islands in the final of 64. He won 11-5, 11-5, 11-5. He gave Chapman no chance of a comeback and secured the win in just three games with two more to spare. He will now face Scotland’s Alan Clyne in his 32nd round match. (ANI)
