Puerto Rican model went down in history as the first model of Victoria’s Secret with Down syndrome.
Sofia Girau, 24, has joined 17 other women in the Valentine’s Love Cloud collection by modeling a lingerie line.
“One day I dreamed about it, I worked on it and today it is a dream come true,” she wrote on her Instagram account.
“I can finally tell you my big secret. I am the first Victoria’s Secret model with Down syndrome! “
Ms. Girau is only the second Puerto Rican model to take part in the Victoria’s Secret campaign.
She follows supermodel Joan Smalls, who first began modeling for the brand in 2010.
Ms. Jirau started her modeling career in 2019 with her own online store called Alavett.
In 2020, she made her New York Fashion Week debut, writing on her website that she was “proud to be one of the few models with Down Syndrome to have attended an important fashion event.”
She also launched a Spanish-language campaign called No Limits to showcase opportunities for people with Down Syndrome.
“Thanks to Victoria’s Secret for seeing me as a #NoLimits model and making me part of the inclusive Love Cloud Collection campaign,” Ms. Jirau said on Instagram.
“Inside and outside there are no boundaries!”
Victoria’s Secret is in in the middle of rebranding while trying to distance himself from the iconic images of Victoria’s Secret angels, trying to please all kinds of women.
The new campaign is the first since Raul Martinez became its creative director in January.
He said: “Love Cloud Collection is an important moment in the evolution of the brand.
“From the cast of amazing women who bring the collection to life, to the incredible inclusive spirit of the set, this campaign is an important part of the new Victoria’s Secret standard we are creating.
