Oligarch’s sister and former Arsenal football club shareholder Alisher Usmanov It has been removed from the EU sanctions list compiled in response to the war in Ukraine.
Usmanov’s sister, Saodat Narzieva, was among many relatives of Russian officials and oligarchs. Added to list in April.
In adding her to the list, the EU cited information contained in investigations by The Guardian and media partners, including the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP).
Usmanov and Nardieva respectively Separate appeal in April In an attempt to reverse sanctions that prevented them from crossing the EU or from using assets located in member states. Usmanov remains on the list.
Other names removed from the EU list this week include deceased Russian populist leader Vladimir Zhirinovsky and financier Mikhail Friedman’s ex-wife Olga Eidman.
A spokesperson for Narzieva said: We welcome the EU Council’s decision to remove Mr. Narzieva from his EU sanctions list.
“We also thank The Guardian for taking our position in a publication on this topic. We hope that it will be taken into account.”
Narzieva was added to the UK sanctions list on April 13, shortly after being designated by the EU.
