Silicon Valley’s Plug and Play launches Midland mobility program

Silicon Valley investor Plug and Play UK has launched its mobility program in the Midlands, in partnership with the University of Warwick, The Advanced Propulsion Center, and Zenzic.

The program, which will bring together stakeholders to improve sustainability in the mobility sector, will be based on the National Center for Automotive Innovation at the University of Warwick.

Plug and Play is also working with former partner Jaguar Land Rover to build an innovation hub.

Said Kieran Borrett, leader of Plug and Play UK UKTN: “With a region of 430 specialist car businesses, including market leaders Jaguar Land Rover, the economic benefits for the Midlands are multifaceted.

“Investing in the Midlands as the UK’s automotive innovation hub for Plug and Play UK is fantastic, and this is another step in our global agenda.”

Borrett said: “However, the Midlands is only the basis for a global innovation hub and certainly not limited to the region. We see the automotive industry as an important and deep sector in the Midlands and we are excited to continue to expand across the UK. ”

The program will complement other Plug and Play mobility programs around the globe including those based in Silicon Valley, Detroit, Stuttgart, Modena, Beijing, and Shanghai.

Founded in 2006, Plug and Play is an early stage investor and innovation platform. Previous investments include the company PayPalDropbox, Loan Club, N26 and Honey.

“This initiative will encourage collaboration and innovation for growth, bringing together UK-based automotive and mobility-related organizations, investors, and the wider ecosystem,” said Ian Constance, CEO, The Advanced Propulsion Center.

The Dedicated Center funds organizations that are creating green transport technology and overseeing the £ 1bn Automotive Transformation Fund.

Zenzic already works with Plug and Play on the CAM Scale Up Programallowing companies to test their autonomous technology.

This continues Plug and Play was launched in the UKin partnership with Jaguar and BT in April.
