A search is underway for men “clad all in black” who stabbed a 17-year-old boy to death outside a bus stop.
Teenager Thomas Taylor was ambushed by thugs as he walked along Greenhill Street in Bedford.
He was seriously injured in the attack and paramedics quickly took him to hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Bedfordshire Police have now launched a murder investigation and are looking to interview a group of men, who are black and wearing dark clothing.
Detectives believe the gang carried out the stabbing before fleeing towards Hassett Street and the Greyfriars car park.
Officers cordoned off several areas of the town center while the investigation continued.
Thomas was a student at Bedford Academy, and principal Chris Deller said the school was “deeply disturbed and shocked” by the news.
Mr Deller said: “Thomas was a popular, well-liked and respected boy who finished Year 11 with strong grades and then moved on to Year 6.”

Detective Inspector Katie Dunias, who is leading the investigation, said: “This is an absolutely shocking incident in which a teenage boy was stabbed to death in the heart of a busy downtown area.
“We have a dedicated team of detectives working on this investigation and are supporting Thomas’ family at this incredibly difficult time.
“I would urge anyone who witnessed what happened or has any information to come forward and speak to police and help us bring those responsible to justice.”
