Scotland vs Ukraine live: How to watch the World Cup play-off semi-final online and on TV tonight

Scotland will be looking to move a win away from a World Cup berth when they face a Ukraine team which is making its return to competition after Russia invaded the country in February.

On what should be an emotional occasion in Hampden, Ukraine will receive an outpouring of support amid the ongoing conflict in the country, but Scotland will need to stay professional as they host the play-off semi-final.

The match was postponed in March following the Russian invasion and with Wales having already reached Sunday’s play-off final, Scotland and Ukraine are one win away from joining them.

Scotland have not qualified for a World Cup since 1998 and a place in Group B is up for grabs at the Qatar tournament, along with England, the United States and Iran, the other three teams of the group.

Here’s everything you need to know ahead of the game.

When is Scotland vs Ukraine?

The match kicks off at 7.45pm BST on Wednesday June 1 and will take place at Hampden Park, Glasgow.

Scotland are without Kieran Tierney and Ryan Jack through injury, while Nathan Patterson is a doubt after spending several weeks on the sidelines following minor ankle surgery. Steve Clarke will have to check the fitness of Andy Robertson and Scott McKenna after appearing in the Champions League final and Championship play-off final respectively over the weekend.

Oleksandr Zinchenko, Ruslan Malinovskyi, Roman Yaremchuk and Andriy Yarmolenko sat out Ukraine’s warm-up game against Borussia Mönchengladbach in May but can expect to return to the starting lineup in Hampden.

Planned compositions

Scotland: Gordon; Hickey, McTominay, Hanley, McKenna, Robertson; McGinn, Gilmour, McGregor; Christie, Dikes

Ukraine: Bushchan; Zabarnyi, Stepanenko, Matvienko; Karavaev, Malinovskyi, Zinchenko, Mykolenko; Yarmolenko, Yaremchuk, Tsyganko

Scotland: 5/4

Draw: 11/5

Ukraine: 12/5

In what should be a special atmosphere given Scotland’s World Cup dreams and the emotion surrounding Ukraine, it’s hard to say. Scotland may be stronger collectively, but Ukraine have the advantage individually and have a particular talent in Ruslan Malianovsky. This game should be close, but this is where Ukraine could make the difference. Scotland 1-2 Ukraine
