“I’m slowly getting better.” It won’t be wireless tomorrow. Rest. I will be back soon.’

Supermarket host Sweep did not confirm why he was in hospital.

Last Saturday, Rylan was forced to retire from his leading show on Radio 2 after falling ill with the flu.

The host usually hosts Rylan on Saturdays every week from 3pm to 6pm, but last week was too bad. He was replaced on Saturday night by Gary Davis.

The TV star took to Twitter the day before to make a message to his followers, writing: “I went and got the flu (I was not surprised) he was in bed for a few days.

“I tested later, not for Covid, fortunately, but I won’t be able to get into wireless tomorrow. Coming back soon x ‘

This comes after Rylan retired from his BBC Radio 2 show for four months last year after parting ways with former police officer Dan Neal.

Sources close to the former Big Brother celebrity star told The Mail on Sunday that the couple tried to reconcile at their wedding home after he spent much of the summer with his mother Linda, who appears in his Saturday afternoon show.

They said, “Things looked as good as if they were together again. They hoped they could avoid divorce, but now it seems like the only way forward.

Friends have insisted that the couple has spent weeks “trying to deal with their problems”, but now the marriage is said to be inescapable.

Rylan’s absence from Radio 2, social media and hosting Eurovision in May led to speculation.

In June, Rylan broke his silence to say: “After the news that Dan and I are spending time apart, I feel I have to talk because the way it is reported is unfair.

“I made a number of mistakes that I deeply regret and inevitably led to the breakup of our marriage.”

The couple married in 2015 in Braxted Park in Essex with guests, including his colleagues from This Morning Ruth Langsford and Eamon Holmes.

The two met in 2013 and got engaged in Paris. In July 2016, they intervened with Eamon and Ruth, becoming the first gay couple to present the ITV program.

Returning to Rylan on Saturday, he assured listeners: “I feel better.”

In January, Rylan told The Sun On Sunday how he became “dangerously thin” and “mentally ill” after his marriage to Dan broke down.

He said: “I got sick and lost weight, I fell below 10 stone – and I’m 6 feet four inches, so that’s not good. The honest truth is that it was nonsense.

“I did not cope with what happened and now I am. I felt bad and it was a very difficult moment for me.

“My mother was very worried about me and my whole family. I don’t just disappear in four months – it doesn’t just happen.

“My mother was a savior for me and one of my biggest regrets this year was that she made my mother feel that I was not well. I had to go back to me.
