The “police-led” incident led to a large chain in downtown Rothdale.
Police confirmed that at 3:10 a.m. today, police received a report of a suspicious object on Dane Street.
They added that a man with a weapon confronted them, and a 17-year-old man was brought.
The polls are still going on.
The GMP spokesman said: “On Thursday, April 21, 2022, at around 3:10 a.m., we received a report of a suspicious object on Rochdale Dane Street.
“The police were present to find a suspicious object. As a precaution, it is blocked, մասնագետ specialist officers are present. We ask members of the public to avoid the area.
“During the initial response, the officers confronted a man with a weapon, the 17-year-old man was brought safely.
“The polls are going on.”
Greater Manchester Transport (TfGM) has confirmed that several major roads have been blocked.
These include Manchester Road, Dane Street, The Esplanade և St Mary’s Gate.
TfGM said on Twitter: “You are traveling in the center of Rothdale Town this morning. Roads are closed due to a police-led incident.
«Manchester Road / Drake St. Mary’s Gate / College Road. The Esplanade / Manchester Road / Dane St. “Closes probably in the next hour.”
Last year, part of Rochdale was closed with another blockade after a woman found an unexploded grenade while fishing for a magnet.
Sophie Doyle, 28, discovered the object while digging the Rothdale Canal.
Police immediately set up a 100-meter chain around the area, and a detachment of bombs was called.
