Birmingham [UK]August 5 (ANI). Indian rowers Reeth Tennyson, Sreeja Akula and Manika Batra won their respective matches in the Round of 32 women’s singles to advance to the next round of the Commonwealth Games 2022 on Thursday.
Akula defeated Malaysia’s Karen Lain with a score of 12-10, 12-10, 4-11, 11-8, 11-8. Tennyson defeated England’s Charlotte Bardsley 11-8, 10-12, 11-6, 12-10, 11-3.
The winners of the Round of 32 will advance to the Commonwealth Games 2022 Women’s Singles Round of 16 on August 5.
Star Indian rower Manika Batra defeated Canada’s Ching Nam Phu 11-5, 11-2, 11-7, 11-6 in a superb performance in the round of 32 women’s singles.
India won the men’s doubles. India’s Harmeet Desai and Sanil Shetty lost their opening match 11-6 against Cypriot Iosif Elia and Christos Savva.
Playing on NEC Table Tennis Match Court 6, the Indian duo took the second game 11-5 to dominate the Cypriot pair. The Indian duo continued their control of the match and wrapped up the third game 11-1 and also 11-6, 11-5, 11-1.
Earlier, the Indian mixed doubles duo of Sathiyan Gnanasekara and Manika Batra proved to be the standout for their rivals Mick Crea and Laura Sinon of Seychellois as the rowers closed out the match 3-0 without any trouble to advance to the next round. .
