Rescue Center for “Crisis” After Dog Influx Following Pandemic Puppy Boom | UK | News

Hope Rescue Wales has 154 dogs, the highest number ever. Founder Vanessa Waddon said the Slan Haran center has seen an influx in recent weeks, blaming the surge in people buying puppies during the blockade.

The center is full and is forced to drive away dogs unless foster parents are found. This explains that Ms. Waddon is sad.

And she fears that the fallout from the surge in demand for puppies during a pandemic could last for years.

Waddon told Express.co.uk:

“The number of dogs purchased during the pandemic. The more dogs owned in the UK, the more dogs will come to the rescue.

“We had to get rid of the dog we were asked to take. It’s breaking our hearts.”

Ms. Waddon said many dogs have had behavioral and health problems since the pandemic.

She states: “This was caused by the fact that the huge demand for dogs in blockade is largely met by poorly welfare breeders.

“Low-welfare breeders are not concerned about whether it is the right breed or the right puppy for their family.

Ms. Waddon added that this puts an additional burden on charities as dogs have to stay with them longer. That is, no space is freed.

She states: “The dogs that come in are staying longer because of their health and behavioral problems.

“They don’t come home right away to find a home. They need additional help and need to perform veterinary work. They may need to make some action plans. not.

“So these dogs don’t go out so fast, which makes it even more difficult.”

Charities have a waiting list for owners who want to hand over their dog.

However, more and more people are being taken away immediately by pretending that their pets are lost.

Waddon said:

“There are a lot of people on our waiting list. Responsible owners are doing the right thing, reaching out for rescue and waiting for dogs to come.

“But some people want to have a dog right now, so what we found is that there are quite a few dogs whose owners pretend to be stray dogs.

“They are ringing the dog keeper, ringing ourselves and saying they found the dog, or deliberately abandoning them.

“All they do is do the right thing, reach out, and jump over the queue of people waiting patiently.”

Founded in 2005, Hope Rescue saves stray and abandoned dogs in South Wales.
