RAY MASSEY: Isuzu D-Max Arctic Trucks AT35 including kitchen sink

Fancy an adventure in a pick-up truck equipped with everything, including the kitchen sink? Japan’s Isuzu has the answer, says RAY MASSEY

Fancy an adventure in a chunky pickup truck equipped with everything, including the kitchen sink?

Japan’s Isuzu has the answer – with a special expedition-ready version of its new D-Max Arctic Truck AT35, which I spotted at the Commercial Vehicle Show at the NEC in Birmingham this week.

Ready for immediate use: with roof tent, refrigerator, 3-burner gas stove, 12-litre folding sink, luggage compartment, secure storage for gas bottles, water and petrol cans

Developed by the UK team at Isuzu, codenamed Basecamp, it’s based on the standard AT35, which went on sale this month from £47,999.

It includes: a roof tent, refrigerator, three-burner gas stove, 12-litre collapsible sink, luggage compartment, secure storage for a gas bottle, water and fuel tanks.

With 4×4 drive, a towing capacity of 3.5 tons and a maximum payload of 1,161 kg, it rolls on 17-inch black alloy wheels from Arctic Trucks, which are equipped with 35-inch LT315/70 R17 mud terrain tires.

Accessible via a ladder, the lightweight rooftop tent features a Skyview window – giving you extra light during the day and a glimpse of the stars at night – and an interior map of the world to inspire the adventurous travel spirit.

Brian Wheeler, Product Manager at Isuzu UK said: “Basecamp was built to conquer all types of landscapes and be a true adventure vehicle. Demonstrating the extreme nature and capabilities of the new AT35, it really includes everything you need, including a rooftop tent and kitchen sink!

“It’s a professionally redesigned vehicle with significant improvements to the body, frame, drivetrain, suspension and tires. The new flagship model in the D-Max range maintains its status as a commercial vehicle without compromising on payload or towing capacity and comes with Isuzu’s five year/125,000 mile warranty.’

Isuzu was founded in Japan in 1916 and began importing the Trooper model to the UK in 1987.
