Prince Andrew’s lawyer asks judge to keep the 2009 legal agreement sealed | UK News

Prince Andrew’s lawyer asks the judge to continue to seal the 2009 legal agreement, which he says can protect him from allegations of sexually assaulting an American woman when she was a teenager. I did.

The request was made in court documents in the Federal Court of Justice in Manhattan, where Judge Luis A. Kaplan of the US District Court presided over an August proceeding filed on behalf of the whistleblower Virginia Jufre.

Ms. Jufre claims that the prince abused her many times in 2001, when she was 17 and a minor under US law.

Prince Andrew denied all claims.

Andrew Brettler, a lawyer representing the royal family, called the proceeding “groundless.”

He is preparing a written debate calling for it to be dismissed and wants to include an agreement under the seal banning proceedings against the royal family.

He also demanded that he edit every part of his argument revealing information about the agreement.

Neither the prince nor Jufre argues that the release agreement must remain sealed, but Brettler is secret because it is subject to a protection order from another judge presided over a federal civil lawsuit in New York. I wanted to ask you to keep it.

An agreement was reached between Jeffrey Epstein and Ms. Juffre, who were found dead in his cell in 2019 while awaiting a sex trafficking trial. His death was sentenced to suicide.

Mr Brettler said the agreement “frees Prince Andrew and others from any liability arising from Ms. Juffle’s allegations made here against Prince Andrew.”

Preliminary hearings related to the proceedings are scheduled for next week.

On Monday, Judge Kaplan ruled Prince Andrew Must be asked under the oath By mid-July next year by Juffle’s lawyer in her civil sexual assault case.

Prince Andrew vehemently denied his allegations and told the BBC in late 2019 that he had never had sex with Ms. Jufre, saying “it never happened.”
