Donald Trump has proposed to rename the Gulf of Mexico the “Gulf of America” and hinted at using military force to reclaim the Panama Canal and Greenland during a recent press conference at Mar-a-Lago. The president-elect criticized Joe Biden’s climate policies and dismissed ongoing criminal cases against him, calling Special Counsel Jack Smith a “stupid idiot.” Trump expressed his belief that the Panama Canal transfer was a significant mistake and stated that Greenland is crucial for national security. He also suggested economic pressure to make Canada the 51st state and encouraged hockey star Wayne Gretzky to run for prime minister.
Donald Trump has announced bold plans to rename the Gulf of Mexico the “Gulf of America,” without ruling out using military force to seize the Panama Canal and Greenland.
The 78-year-old president-elect announced the threat of coercion and name swapping on the world stage during a wide-ranging news conference Tuesday morning at Mar-a-Lago.
He laid out his vision for the world, took aim at Canada and took a dig at President Joe Biden’s climate change policies.
President Trump also attacked his nemesis, Special Counsel Jack Smith, calling him a “stupid idiot” and demanding an end to all criminal cases.
“He will execute everyone,” he said furiously before taking questions from reporters.
Just 13 days before the inauguration, he said America was in a “golden age” and that it would “take off like a rocket ship” once it took back the keys to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.
He also slammed crackdowns on gas stoves, saying electric stoves were “itchy” and said windmills were killing whales.
Donald Trump has announced bold plans to rename the Gulf of Mexico the “Gulf of America”, without ruling out the possibility of using military force to seize the Panama Canal and Greenland.
In a notable moment, a reporter asked President Trump if he could guarantee he would not use “military or economic coercion” to take control of the Panama Canal and Greenland.
In recent weeks, he has stepped up his threats to take over both as he prepares for a second term.
In response, President Trump said, “No, I can’t guarantee either of those things.”
President Trump added, “The Panama Canal is extremely important to our country.” It’s run by China. and gave Panama the Panama Canal.
“We didn’t give it to China, but they abused it. They abused that gift. By the way, it should never have been made!
“By the way, it (Panama Canal Agreement) should never have been concluded. In my opinion, giving away the Panama Canal is the reason Jimmy Carter lost the election. Probably more so than the hostages.’
He was referring to the Iran hostage crisis in which 53 American diplomats were held at the embassy in Tehran from 1979 to 1981.
“The hostages were a big deal. But remember, no one wants to talk about the Panama Canal now because I think it’s inappropriate. It’s a bad part of Carter’s legacy.”
“But he was a good guy. Look, he was a good guy, I knew him a little bit, and he was such a great guy. But it was a big mistake.
The 78-year-old president-elect announced the name swap Tuesday morning at a wide-ranging press conference at Mar-a-Lago.
President Trump said the deal to transfer the Panama Canal to Panama “should never have happened” and is why the late President Jimmy Carter lost re-election.
President Trump threatened to take over Greenland if his son, Don Jr., landed there.
President Trump added that he wants to change the name of the Gulf of Mexico (the ocean on the right) to the “Gulf of America.” He added that it was a “beautiful name”
“They say it was a very big mistake to give the Panama Canal to Panama. It killed 38,000 people, cost $1 trillion worth, maybe more, and was probably the most expensive building ever built. If you’re going to call this a building, I think it’s probably one that’s ever been built. And it was terrifying to let it go.”
He then said the United States needed Greenland for “national security” and questioned whether Denmark had legal rights or “interests” in the region.
He made the comments when his son Donald Trump Jr. visited there to film content for social media.
The president-elect said Denmark would face heavy economic tariffs if it tried to keep Greenland. He also claimed that the people of Greenland would vote to become part of the United States.
Greenland is an autonomous territory of Denmark. The United States has military bases there due to its strategic location in the North Atlantic. The island also has some valuable mineral deposits.
Denmark rejected the then-president’s offer to buy the island during Trump’s first term. And the state has made it clear that it will maintain it.
It was Canada that President Trump said he would not invade. But he said he would use “economic unity” to make the state the 51st state.
He reiterated his claim that the country is economically dependent on the United States. The United States is Canada’s largest trading partner.
President Trump also said he spoke with former hockey great Wayne Gretzky and encouraged him to run for prime minister now that Justin Trudeau is stepping down.
“I have a lot of great friends. One of them is the great Wayne Gretzky. I told you to run for prime minister. You’ll win it. It takes two seconds.” he said.
President Trump also made a bombshell at the beginning of a press conference when he announced plans to change the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America.
“We’re going to change – as opposed to Biden shutting everything down and getting rid of 50 to 60 trillion worth of assets – we’re going to change the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Beautiful Ringed Gulf of America. he pointed out.
“It covers a lot of territory. Gulf of America. What a beautiful name. It’s appropriate. It’s appropriate.”
