Predicting the winners of Europe’s big five leagues

With the football season approaching the halfway point, tension is heating up across Europe’s top leagues as the title race gets in full swing. The demands of both domestic and European football are taking their tole, as each team looks to either retain their crown or write a fresh name in the history books.

In years gone by, we’ve seen plenty of teams upset the football odds and win the league despite being touted as underdogs. Read on, as we discuss who think will win each of Europe’s top five leagues.

Ligue 1 – Paris Saint Germain

The French league looked to have become something of a foregone conclusion when a financial takeover put Paris Saint Germain in pole position for the league title for the best part of nine years. However, Monaco and Lille have upset the Parisians in recent years, with Les Dogues snatching the title on the final day of last season. This year though, normality looks to have resumed, with a plethora of new faces at the Parc des Princes, including this up and coming Argentine we think is called Lionel Messi. The question doesn’t seem to be if PSG will win, but more by how many points they can accumulate.

Serie A – AC Milan

It’s something of a two-horse race over in Italy, with Napoli and AC Milan battling it out for the Serie A title. Considering Napoli’s reputation over the last few years, missing out on the title due to their own capitulations, we think Stefano Pioli’s side will just edge it with their favourable end of season run. With the Rossoneri likely to crash out of Europe prematurely, all focus will be on the league and with the experience of Zlatan Ibrahimović, the title could return to the San Siro, but with different coloured ribbons this time.

Bundesliga – Bayern Munich

What can you say that hasn’t already been said about Bayern Munich? After winning the treble in 2020, there were a few eyebrows raised when Hansi Flick left the club this summer for young coach Julian Nagelsmann. But it has essentially been business as usual in Bavaria. Another Bundesliga title would make it nine in a row, with Jürgen Klopp’s Borussia Dortmund the last side to stop the all-conquering Germans, and whilst they are second in the table, they look miles off challenging anytime soon.

Premier League – Manchester City

Perhaps the most competitive league in all of Europe, it’s always so hard looking at the Premier League’s football betting predictions. On the right day, anyone can beat anyone and it makes for an open title race until the very end. Although Liverpool and Chelsea are in the hunt, with the Blues leading the pack at the moment, we think Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City are too consistent to not be considered as likely winners, and with the Africa Cup of Nations devouring the division over January, the Citiziens stand in the best stead to pick up the trophy come May.

La Liga – Atlético Madrid

Just the third team on this list to defend their title, and coincidently one in the same Champions League group as Milan, Atlético Madrid look on course to defend their title under Diego Simeone. While Real Madrid may lead the Spanish top flight, Carlo Ancelotti’s men lost a lot of experienced players this summer whilst Atlétikept the core of their team at the Wanda Metropolitano. Expect a close title race, but we think El Cholo’s men will just edge it.
