A 53-year-old Kent police officer was killed with a club on April 27 at Akholtwood near his home in Snowdown, Kent. The attack triggered a large-scale murder investigation involving dozens of police officers from all over the country.

The funeral took place today at Canterbury Cathedral, during which daughter Bethan Coles read a poem and temporary police officer Gavin Moss spoke on behalf of the police.

The service followed a procession through the nearby village of Eilsham, where Mrs. James lived. After passing through Dorman Avenue South, the procession went around Market Square and left the village via Dorman Avenue North.

Those attending the Canterbury service at 12:00 pm were asked to wear blue in favor of Mrs. James’ long-standing service to the Kent Police. Her daughter added that Canterbury Cathedral had offered to livestream the funeral for those who couldn’t attend.

Coles said on Facebook: If you want to get together in Market Square or line up on the street for the final farewell, do so!
