Jesse Lingard revealed why he had a successful loan spell in West Ham last season before returning to London Stadium with Manchester United on Sunday.
He told the club’s website: “As I said, it was a reset for me. I wanted to play the game and help the team join the Europa League.
“The young people are great, the staff are great, and the fans have always supported me.
“At the personal level, it was to get the minutes, do well for ourselves, and try to get back to England, but as a group, Europe is huge for West Ham and we have achieved it. It was one of the goals I wanted to do.
“The manager gave me the freedom to walk around, get on the ball, and try to do things. The game I had started to give me confidence, and when I got one, I got two. Three are starting to get behind the net. It was a great experience as I was able to play with confidence and it was one of the best half seasons I’ve ever had.
“Obviously, if you’re not on the good side, you won’t enter Europe. West Ham is well organized, can be quickly countered, and hard to disassemble. So this is a difficult game. If you want to get three points, you have to work on it. We are well trained and will join the game with confidence. “
