Just before 6:20 a.m., officers were called to a report of a vehicle crashing into a sewer ditch at a waste treatment facility.
Emergency services found the father-of-one just meters from his car, which was partially submerged in an oxidation tank.
A 21-year-old man and woman who were passengers in the car were also rescued from Weldale sewage treatment plant in Castleford, West Yorkshire, and taken to hospital.
The two were then arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

Taylor’s loved ones, including his girlfriend Megan Carswell, paid emotional tributes to the “kind” teenager on social media.
“I don’t even know where to start. Never in a million years did I think I would be writing this message,” Megan posted on Facebook.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesperson said yesterday (Sunday): “There was a temporary road closure in place on Weldon Road, which has now been lifted.”
“This incident is being investigated by the Major Collision Investigation Team and we are appealing for anyone who saw the vehicle traveling along Weldon Road from the Airedale direction in the immediate past to contact us.”
“We encourage anyone with footage that may assist this investigation to contact us.”
