Peru swayed by a magnitude 7.3 earthquake

The quake struck a sparsely populated area in northern Peru.

According to the United States Geological Survey, Peru was hit by a magnitude 7.5 earthquake.

No tsunami warning has been issued and it is not clear if anyone was injured in a South American country.

Though felt as far away as the capital Lima, the quake occurred in a very populous area of ​​the Amazon rainforest, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Center said in a tweet.

According to various agencies, the quakes occurred at depths of 80km up to 100km with limited damage.

The earthquake was measured at 7.3 by EMSC.

It struck about 45 kilometers (27.96 miles) north of Balanka at around 5:50 am local time.
