Mack made a name for himself in July, when he recorded Australia’s slowest leg in the heat of the men’s 4x200m freestyle relay at the Tokyo Olympics.

The athlete, who won the gold medal in the 400m freestyle in the last tournament in Rio de Janeiro, dropped out of the team in the final where Australia won the bronze medal behind Britain and Russia.

He predicted that Australia would drop out of the relay final shortly after the heat that passed the second fastest qualifying.

“Probably not as good as I wanted,” Mack later told Channel Seven.

“It was probably not enough to reach the sad final team, but we let the team go through. That’s all that matters.

“I was honored to be able to participate in it.”

Mack swam in the relay heat and left Tokyo with a bronze medal.

Despite the disappointing show in Tokyo, Mack has shown that he plans to continue swimming and is looking to the 3rd Olympic Games in Paris in 2024.
