Olympic boxer Nicola Adams announces she is expecting a baby from her friend Ella Beig | Ents and art news

Olympic boxer Nicola Adams and her friend Ella Beig are expecting their first child, the couple said.

Adams, 39, who became the first woman to win an Olympic boxing medal in 2012, broke the news on social media, saying she was “so excited” that her family was growing.

Along with a photo of the couple kissing and an ultrasound scan, she said: “After what seems like a lifetime, we can finally say that we will be parents!

“We are so excited to share this magical journey with all of you, the ups and downs, everything in between.

“Welcome to the world, little one.”

Writing in Vogue, the former Strictly athlete said that the couple went through two rounds of unsuccessful IVF, as the 23-year-old Bey suffered a miscarriage.

She is now in her second trimester.

Adams spoke of his worries, trying to conceive as a same-sex couple.

“I think there is still a stigma associated with the IVF process, and there is an extra layer of complexity for same-sex couples,” she said.

“All of this needs to be talked about more widely. People need to be educated about this process so that they don’t go into it completely blind. The information is there, but we really had to dig for it.”

She said she hopes other couples will learn from their experience.

“We hope at least one person finds solace in our story. If you’re a same-sex couple going through this chapter of your life, know you’re not alone.”
