Scott and Charlene’s wedding
Perhaps the most famous Neighbors moment, 20 million people watched Scott and Charlene Robinson, played by Jason Donovan and Kylie Minogue, marry in November 1988.
The couple’s friends and family were seen in floods of tears as Charlene walked down the aisle to Angry Anderson’s power ballad Suddenly, with neighbor Nell Mangel catching the bouquet.
Mark leaves Analise at the altar
Mark Gottlieb and Annalize Hartman’s wedding didn’t go as planned in 1994. While both parties were nervous on the day, Mark left Annalize at the altar, saying he couldn’t marry her.
However, it wasn’t all Annnalize’s way as he decided marriage wasn’t for him and decided to become a priest.
Death of Helen Daniels
Helen Daniels, played by the late Anne Huddy, established herself as the grandmother on Ramsay Street.
Involved in some compelling storylines over the years, she saw her life stolen by a con man, had an affair with her daughter’s fiancé and fell down the stairs before suffering a stroke.
In an attempt to bring the feuding Ramsay and Robinson families together, she brought them together to watch Scott and Charlene’s wedding together, but as they fought over their differences, she quietly passed out on the couch in her sleep.
The Lou, Madge and Harold love triangle
The lives of Madge Ramsay (Anne Charleston), Harold Bishop (Ian Smith) and Lou Carpenter (Tom Oliver) became intertwined before the show even hit the screen, with the trio having known each other since their school days.
Madge fell head over heels in love with “Jelly Belly” Harold, but was also strongly attracted to the brash Lou.
However, Madge’s life took an unexpected turn for viewers when she married Fred Mitchell, and their relationship soon soured.
Madge and Harold later reunited and he proposed much to the disgust of Lou, who tried to win Madge over. Madge eventually married Harold in 1988.
After Harold’s death, Lou sets his sights on Madge again and the two plan to marry, but call it off when he realizes he is not right for Harold.
Harold is back from the dead
Harold was killed by the soap when he was swept out to sea when Madge’s back was turned, leaving nothing behind but her glasses.
However, he made a shock return to Erinsborough five years later, claiming to be suffering from amnesia, when Helen Daniels chanced upon him while browsing in a Salvation Army shop.
He returned to Ramsay Street to reunite with Madge.
Madge appeared on the show from 1986 to 1992 and again from 1996 to 2001 as a much-loved character.
After Harold’s return, the couple renew their marriage vows and raise a child, but she is later diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.
Doctors told her she only had months to live, but another tragedy followed when her life was cut even further after she developed septicemia after cutting her finger.
Before dying, Lou confesses his eternal love to her and she dies in Harold’s arms.
Susan’s memory loss
In typical soap fashion, Susan Kennedy (Jackie Woodburn) completely lost her memory after slipping on milk from a spilled cereal bowl in 2002.
She was convinced she was 16 again, a situation that left her incredibly confused when she accidentally ended up at a 70s-themed birthday party.
Jarrod “Toadfish” Rebecchi, played by Ryan Moloney, was first found heartbroken just hours after his wedding to Dee Bliss (Madeleine West) in 2003, when he lost control of their car and drove it off a cliff, as the body it was never discovered.
In 2010, he left Steph Scully (Carla Bonner) at the altar when he realized she didn’t love him, and during his third wedding to Sonya Mitchell (Yves Morey) in 2013, a gas bottle exploded during the reception. destroyed their tent and left Sonya with a fractured skull and no memory of the wedding. Characters Priya Kapoor and Rhys Lawson were also killed in the blast.
