Nadia Bartel scandal: All the signs the ex-AFL WAG will return to the Melbourne Cup Carnival

Nadia Bartel has stepped away from the spotlight ever since a video of her ‘snorting white powder’ and breaking Melbourne‘s strict lockdown on September 2 went viral.

But as the Melbourne Cup carnival prepares to kick off in a matter of days, speculation has run rife that the 36-year-old – a regular attendee – could use the event at Flemington Racecourse as her big comeback to the social scene.

The former AFL WAG, who last year described the races as ‘the highlight of my year’, has attended the event many times alongside her bevy of pals.

Comeback? Rumours are running rife that Nadia Bartel could be making her big return to the races over the weekend, after laying low for weeks following her infamous snorting scandal. Pictured as the 2020 Melbourne Cup carnival ambassador

Year after year, Nadia and fellow WAGS Bec Judd and Kylie Brown have been spotted in the Birdcage, a premium marquee where celebrities and the society set watch the Melbourne Cup and party.

The mum-of-two also held a high-profile role at the races last year, with The Victoria Racing Club (VRC) announcing her as Melbourne Cup Carnival Ambassador in 2020.

‘The Melbourne Cup Carnival is always the highlight of my year, and although it may look a little different this year, I have no doubt the excitement levels will be as high as ever,’ Nadia said in a press release at the time.

She also celebrated landing the prominent role by explaining her ‘humble beginnings’ at the Melbourne Cup carnival in an interview with the Herald Sun.

‘When I first started coming I was more a nursery, carpark girl and I used to go in general a fair bit,’ she said last year.

What’s more, Nadia’s best pal Bec Judd hinted that she will be attending the races this year on Instagram, making it even more likely that the Henne designer will attend alongside her.

On Monday, Bec, 38, re-shared a post by tanning company Spray Aus.

The company was founded by Ellie Pearson – who accidentally uploaded the infamous video of Nadia snorting white powder last month – and Emily McKay. Both Bec and Nadia are also partners in the company.

The post read: ‘At the races, tanned by us,’ alongside a throwback image of Bec looking bronzed and beautiful at last year’s Melbourne Cup.

The fact Bec is advertising spray tans for race attendees is a major hint she’ll be rocking up to the event herself, so it would be no surprise if Nadia would come along with her.

Meanwhile, Nadia has kept a low profile both online and in person in recent weeks.

However, she did make a grand return to Instagram a week ago to endorse her new denim collection for her fashion label, Henne, after six weeks of silence.

The move could easily have been a way to soften the blow for her public return at the races, so that the glitzy event wouldn’t be the first time Nadia would ‘break her silence’ following the scandal.

Daily Mail Australia have contacted a representative for Nadia for further comment.

The Melbourne Cup Carnival will officially be going ahead this year, following months of uncertainty due to the worldwide pandemic.

However, strict COVID-19 protocols will be in force as the VRC prepares to welcome 10,000 fully vaccinated racegoers on Melbourne Cup day, after opening the gates to 5500 spring carnival fans for Victoria Derby on Saturday.

‘It’s a well deserved reward that we are now going to have a Flemington carnival with a crowd over the next week or two,’ Victorian racing minister Martin Pakula said.

‘There is no better setting than Flemington over this four days to declare that Melbourne and Victoria is back open for business.’

Nadia was filmed by her business partner Pearson breaking Melbourne’s lockdown and snorting white powder at an illegal gathering at a friends house at the start of last month.

Ellie accidentally uploaded the footage on her Instagram page, with Nadia breaking her silence with a public apology one day later.

‘Hi everyone, I have let you all down by my actions. I take full responsibility and I am committed to taking all necessary steps to ensure I make better choices in future,’ Nadia wrote in a post.

‘To my family and friends, my business partners and the public health workers trying to keep us all safe, I am embarrassed and remorseful.

‘I am truly and deeply sorry. I hope I can earn your forgiveness and, in time, your trust.’

At the time private and public gatherings were not permitted in Melbourne, where Bartel lives, under Victoria’s Covid restrictions.

Nadia’s apology – which included an appeal for forgiveness from health workers – appeared to confirm the gathering was held on Thursday, September 2.

A later report claimed the video first found its way online due to Ellie having a cracked phone screen.

It’s alleged she was attempting to send the video to her sister; however, because her phone screen was damaged, she hit the wrong buttons.

As a result, the clip was posted to both Instagram and Facebook, and was online for about 10 minutes before being deleted, the Sydney Morning Herald reported.

But it was quickly copied by others and shared around, going viral on Thursday night and making headlines by Friday morning.

Nadia and three other women were each fined $5,452 after damning footage of the party was posted on Instagram.

Nadia wasn’t charged with drug offences, because police couldn’t prove what she was snorting.

The influencer is a mother of two and the ex-wife of retired AFL star Jimmy Bartel, a Brownlow Medallist who spent his career with the Geelong Cats.

The couple split in 2019 after five years of marriage.
