Patients have to wait weeks for STI treatment due to increasing pressure on sexual health clinics due to monkey flower spread, health leaders warned.
Rising infection rates are forcing clinics to reduce daily activities by 30 per cent as attention shifts to identifying potential monkey cases and administering the vaccine to at-risk groups, the Terence Higgins Trust said.
British Sexual Health Association and HIV (BASHH) said the spread of monkeypox has also made it difficult for people to access PreP – a preventive drug that reduces the chances of HIV infection in at-risk groups – and is long-lasting contraceptionsuch as coil.
