At least 20 people, half of their children, were injured after a fair ride crashed in Italy, officials say.

Families attending a festival in Palma Campania, near Naples, were packed on the chair swing ride Sunday afternoon.

Footage shows the base of the ride shaking violently shortly after reaching full speed.

Circumstances can be heard calling as it then begins to loosen from its safety cuffs and tilts over on its side.

Parents were then seen screaming to check on their children.

One 12-year-old remained in the hospital on Wednesday, according to local media.

Detectives are investigating an individual responsible for the felony on suspicion of causing injuries due to negligence by allowing the ride to fail structurally.

The fairgrounds operator had earlier told local reporters that it was a ‘miracle that no one was killed’.

They seized the equipment as evidence as well as papers showing when the carousel was last subjected to safety tests.

The ride crashed just hours before the fair ended, the city mayor said.
