Musicians such as Dave, Little Simz and Getz were honored at this year’s MOBO Awards.

London rapper Central Cee was also hailed as the best drill act at ceremonies showing the best black music in Britain, Africa and the Caribbean.

Rapper Dave won this year’s album after winning the most MOBO nominations on his acclaimed second album, “We’re All Alone in This Together.”

Little Simz won her first award for acting as the best female at the 24th Annual Ceremony, and Getz won the acting as the best male.

Kanya King, Founder and CEO of MOBO, Sky News’ new drill category: “The important thing is that MOBO is the driving force behind progress and really celebrates the music that young people are crazy about.

“Drills are the dominant genre and we wanted to be able to celebrate artistry.”

The drill has been accused by authorities of promoting youth violence. Big Nursey argued in 2018 that it was “unfair” that the genre was associated with puncture wounds and shootings in the capital.

That same year, the Metropolitan Police Department ordered YouTube to remove at least 30 drill videos from the platform, claiming to have instigated gang violence.

MOBO Awards 2021 will be streamed on YouTube from 8 pm on Sunday, with Little Mix’s Leigh-Anne Pinnock and comedian Munha Chawawa hosting this year’s show.
