Michael Jackson’s mother, Catherine, says the family is “revered” while Lyongate takes a biographical film about the King of Pop

Michael Jackson, who died in 2009, will recreate his life in an upcoming biographical film entitled Michael.

Lionsgate has received the rights to distribute the film, which was written by Gladiator writer John Logan, according to Deadline on Monday.

In a statement, Lionsgate said the film would be “an in-depth portrayal of a sophisticated man who became the king of pop.” It will revive Jackson’s most iconic performances as it gives an informed insight into the artist’s artistic process and personal life.

Michael was created with the blessing of the estate of the deceased pop star and his mother Catherine Jackson seems quite excited about it.

“From a young age, Michael, as a member of The Jackson 5, loved the magic of cinema,” she said. “As a family, we are honored that our life story comes to life on the big screen.”

Three-time Oscar nominee John Logan has written the script, while Oscar-winning producer The Departed producer Graham King will co-produce with John Branca and John McClain, co-performers at Michael Jackson’s mansion – allowing the project access to Jackson’s music.

King has 71 Oscars to his name and was nominated for Best Picture for producing another recent musical biographical film, Bohemian Rhapsody of 2018.

King explained that he was “humble” to bring the story to the screen almost four decades after meeting the famous family.

He said: “I first met the Jackson family in 1981 and I am humble to present their legacy on the big screen. Sitting at Dodger Stadium and watching the Victory Tour, I could never have imagined that almost 38 years later I would be privileged to be a part of this film.

The biographical film of King in collaboration with the mansion of Jackson and Logan was presented for the first time in 2019, but only now found a studio.

Jackson has sold more than 400 million records worldwide. He won 15 Grammy Awards, a Golden Globe and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice.

The Thriller singer has also been at the center of controversy for decades and even more in recent years.

According to Deadline, the new biographical film will cover the period from Jackson’s life from his childhood with The Jackson Five to civil and criminal cases before his death at the age of 50 in 2009.

Joe Drake, chairman of the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, said in a statement: “I am very excited that Lionsgate will be part of this epic film and I am excited to work with Graham, who has proven successful in telling iconic Bohemian Rhapsody life stories. Ali; when we combine with John, we could not be in more extraordinary hands.

In 1993, Los Angeles police said they were investigating allegations that Jackson had bullied four children.

These allegations were brought to light again in a four-hour HBO documentary from 2019, during which James Seifchuk, who met the singer in 1986 when he was just 10, and Wade Robson offered explicit details. for the long-standing violence they say. they suffered at the hands of Jackson, during which the singer claimed he would win the favor of the boys’ families by arranging for them to travel with him.

They said they were harassed by the singer at his extensive Neverland Ranch in Santa Barbara County, California – and at one point the King of Pop even organized a fake wedding full of oaths and a diamond ring with Safechuck.

Police later arrested Jackson on charges of child abuse on November 20, 2003, after he was charged with 10 criminal charges, including child abuse, kidnapping, false imprisonment and extortion. He was eventually acquitted in 2005 and died in 2009 at the age of 50.

With the Jackson family involved in the project, it is unclear how the film will incorporate the allegations.

Michael Jackson’s musical, titled MJ, came out late last year, and a number of critics have condemned the show for skipping that chapter of Jackson’s life.

Many reviews – including one for the New York Times – mention the fact that Jackson’s mansion was involved in the production of what is essentially a “permitted autobiography”, which is why the story includes so many diluted references.

As a review of Deadline read: “In the universe of musicals, the closest MJ to confront the subject is a vague reference to a family invited to tour with the singer, but even this comment is open to interpretation: the business partner raising the issue is simply worried about the cost of extra people on tour, or is he worried about putting a young boy in such close proximity to the star? Is the feeling of foreboding in the reference rooted in concern for victims of child abuse or for victims of intriguing blackmailers? MJ’s unspoken answer: Decide for yourself.

Divorced? With the Jackson family involved in the project, it is unclear whether the film will touch on the accusations at all, as the musical MJ skipped them from the point of view of several critics; Miles Frost and Whitney Bashor met at MJ on February 1 in New York
