Mel has been the protagonist of the bronze Martin Riggs since the first movie hit screen in 1987.

At an event in London last night, 65-year-old Mel said:

“He was developing a script, and he did pretty well with it, and he told me one day,” Listen to the kid, if I kick the bucket you do it Probably. ” And I said: “Shut up.”

“But he did die. But he asked me to do it, and then I said nothing.

“He told it to his wife, studio and producer, so I oversee the fifth one.”

Insider said Mel would replay his role as Riggs in the film.

One source adds:

“Riggs fans will be delighted to see him come back to the screen. He’s old, but not always smart.

“It is hoped that Danny Glover will return and play the role of Roger Marteau again.”

Each movie of Deadly Weapons averages around £ 170m worldwide in box office revenue.

Once one of Hollywood’s most famous actors, Mel was at the center of a series of controversies, including anti-Semitic claims.

When he was arrested for drunk driving in 2006, he made two moaning apologies when he made a fuss about the Jews.

The tapes leaked in 2010 were many after he used racist and abusive language in a row with his then girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva, the mother of one of nine children. Turned his back on him.
