Killian Mbabane scored twice on Tuesday night as France beat South Africa 5-0 to record their second victory in the international break.
Mbabane, who missed Friday night’s 2-1 victory over C Կte d’Ivoire due to an ear infection, hit Lily in the 23rd minute at Stade Pierre Mauroy Stadium.
The striker of “Paris Saint Germain” turned the shot from the left side of the penalty area on the goalkeeper of the Republic of Africa Ronven Williams and entered the net.
Ten minutes later, Olivier Giroud doubled his lead, scoring his 48th goal for France.
Mbabane scored from the penalty spot in the 75th minute after being thrown down by Siyanda Khulu. It was the 23-year-old’s 26th goal in his 54th game for his country.
Wissam Ben Yeder scored the fourth goal after Paul Pogba headed in Mbape’s center and Mbape created Mateo Gendozi for his first international goal to end the match.
“I had a good time,” Mbabane told French television channel TF1. “We played well, winning two victories during the last two days is also good.
The head coach of the French team Didier Deschamps added: “It was a good match. The players were having fun and entertaining the fans. “They are happy, and so am I.”
While France was on the move, qualifying for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar was guaranteed, with a number of European-African teams vying for the last place in the play-offs.
In the African qualifying tournament, Senegal advanced after winning the penalty shootout over Egypt. The match at the “Abdullaye Wade” stadium in Dakar ended with a 1-0 score of the hosts.
With a total score of 1-1, an additional 30 minutes were played.
But neither side could find the winning goal.
As in the final of the African Cup of Nations in Cameroon, Senegal scored Sadio Mane in the penalty shootout.
Ghana atoned for their disastrous campaign in the Nations Cup. The All-Stars drew 1-1 with Nigeria in Abuja, taking the lead in away goals.
Thomas Parti scored for the visitors in the 11th minute, or Nigeria captain William Trost-Ekong equalized in the middle of the first half, the hosts could not break the Ghana defender.
In Casablanca, Morocco beat the Democratic Republic of the Congo 4-1, advancing 5-2 overall, while Tunisia played a goalless draw with Mali at Rades, qualifying for a 1-0 victory over Bamako last Friday.
In Europe, Portugal lost 2-0 to Italy, which conquered Northern Macedonia. Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandez scored goals in each half to take Fernando Santos’ side to the final.
