Sinn Féin President Mary Lou McDonald welcomed a letter signed by 36 members of the U.S. Parliament rejecting the UK government’s proposal to end all legal investigations into conflict-related killings. ..
Mary Lou Barebone said:
“The US Parliament has always acted to protect our agreement and promote the cause of peace and reconciliation in Ireland.
“I welcome this letter today, denying the UK Government’s unilateral proposal to complete all investigations and give universal amnesty.
“Their proposals are carried out against the Good Friday Agreement, undermining the Good Friday Agreement’s commitment to human rights.
“Boris Johnson needs to listen to Parliament, victim groups, churches, all political parties, and the Government of Ireland and take these proposals off the table.
“The Stormont House Agreement is widely supported. It should be fully respected and implemented.
“Thanks to the Parliamentarians for their continued support of our agreement.”
