Marylise donated the kidneys, but they couldn’t reach Sean directly because they couldn’t give them to Sean. Instead, they participated in a kidney donation program in which Marylise’s kidneys go to another woman in return for Sean receiving the kidneys from someone else.

Marilyse only had to stay overnight, but Shaun will stay in the hospital for up to 10 days.
