Police tent in Fallowfield Manchester as officers investigate incident | UK | News

Police arrived on the outskirts of the city and closed a busy road near the university campus.

Two tents have been erected as officers investigate a serious incident in Fallowfield, Manchester. Close to the University of Manchester campus and the student residences of the red brick facility.

A police car is visible inside the cordon, but police have yet to confirm the nature of the investigation at this stage. No reports of stabbings have been confirmed.

Two police tents flank the strip of shops and takeaways.

Bus services are congested and diverted from routes south of the city.

A tweet posted by Transport for Greater Manchester read: “A6010 Wilmslow Road, Fallowfield is closed between Moseley Road and Langley Road due to a police incident.

“Bus services will be diverted and will use Dickenson Road – Birchfields Road – Moseley Road in both directions.”

The publication’s reporter, Nicole Wootton-Kane, tweeted: “The exclusion zone is right next to Mabfield Road on the University of Manchester’s Owens Park campus, but Wilmslow Road is on Old Hall Lane. Closed to vehicles between Wilbraham Roads.

“A massive police cordon has been set up and there is a large police presence this morning.”

About 15,000 people live in the Fallowfield area, many of them students at the University of Manchester.

Home to workers, the area also has several high street businesses and supermarkets. In 1986, Britain’s first drive-thru McDonald’s opened in Fallowfield.
