Fitness star Laura Henshaw said she was “shocked” when her husband’s family took her name and even admitted that some people doubted his masculinity.
Laura Henshaw, co-founder of Keep It Cleaner, admitted that many were “shocked” when he heard that his new husband, Dalton, took her name when he tied the knot last month.
Talk to Mamma Mia On Monday, 28-year-old Laura said her family was surprised at first, but then “understood.”
Laura also revealed in a frank chat that after Dalton and Nebraska became Mr. Henshaw, there was a “negative and positive” story on social media about masculinity.

Laura explained that Dalton first raised the idea that he would take her name, and they decided to become Mr. and Mrs. Henshaw because they felt it was just “correct” for them.
She added the romantic gesture that Dalton is such a collaborative partner, so her name “means more than she can describe in words.”
Talking about how Dalton’s family responded to the news, she explained that after the first shock, they finally understood their decision.
Breaking Tradition: Laura explained that Dalton first raised the idea that he would take her name and that they just felt “right” for them, so they decided to become Mr. and Mrs. Henshaw.
“Dalton comes from a very traditional family, so it was so shocking that it was definitely a difficult conversation,” Laura explained.
“But after chatting through reasoning, his family understood his decision.”
On the topic of masculinity, Laura said that taking someone’s name has nothing to do with masculinity or femininity.
“Instagram has comments on both negative and positive masculinity, which I found really interesting,” she said.
“Someone’s decision to take over a partner’s name does not make them more or less masculine or more or less feminine.”
“It was definitely a difficult conversation because Dalton came from a very traditional family, so it was so shocking,” Laura explained.
They held a wedding reception at Levanteen Hill Estate in the Yarra Valley of Victoria late last month, and Laura called the day an “absolute dream.”
She also hints that Dalton is taking her name and writes “Henshaw and his wife” under one wedding photo shared on Instagram.
“What an absolute dream we were able to bring the boys,” she began mentioning that there was a dog at the event with her bow tie on.

Her wedding dress featured a strapless design, boned bodice, and a flowing tiered skirt.

In 2018, Laura signed a deal with partner Dalton, who runs its own advertising and marketing agency.
Earlier this year, Laura revealed that she had to postpone her fourth wedding because Victoria entered another blockade of Covid.
