Lady Mary Berry spoke about her “exciting” new role as a pudding judge for the Queen’s platinum anniversary celebrations ahead of her new three-part series for BBC One, “The Fantastic Holidays of Mary Berry”.

The 86-year-old said: “I look forward to celebrating the Queen’s 70th birthday and, of course, judging the platinum pudding competition. How exciting!”

It also has several secret ingredients. Her celebrities are the star of Capital FM Roman Kemp – who recently revealed about his struggle with mental health – and Tom Reed Wilson of Celebs Go Dating, whom she calls “funny.”

However, this will not be easy for Mary and her teaching skills will be put to the test. After all, Thaer had to throw away burnt pots before, and Mark had never followed a recipe in his life.

But Mary doesn’t worry: “Teaching cooking is a huge passion of mine, it’s in my DNA, so I wanted to share my knowledge and encourage novice cooks.”

She added that her celebrity aides shouldn’t help either, saying: “Roman, do you believe he never drank a cup of tea! And when he tasted it, he said, “Well, it’s like hot water,” so I was really mean to ask him to go and choose the tea for the tea party, because he really didn’t know what he was doing!

“Tom’s mission is to find the best strawberry jam, so I’m sending him to do some cooking with the local Women’s Institute. He really enjoys it, he’s just on his street. In fact, he wants to join WI!

I think he was in his element, making sweets and putting them in these very attractive jars, with beautiful labels – he was very happy with himself!

In addition to judging the platinum pudding competition, Mary also has her husband’s birthday to look forward to.

“My husband has a special birthday in March and we actually have a family lunch to celebrate,” she revealed.

“I do one course, our daughter Annabelle does the main one, and our daughter-in-law does another one. I think if you have a special occasion to cook, it’s good to share it. Just make a part of it between family or friends and it’s a wonderful gift, isn’t it? “

Mary Berry’s fantastic holidays are broadcast on Wednesday, March 9 at 20:00 on BBC One.
